Cloud Security – the Movie

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Everyone that has had a chance to load up his or her new Kindle or iPad after the holiday has been working on the cloud. Individual cloud computing security is a non-issue for most personal users. The security risk that they take is limited to their own data and doesn’t put sensitive client information or the entire organization at risk.

Our security partner CipherCloud has a concise video on their site that explains the tension between the executive user of cloud applications and the concerns of the CIO. Click here to see the video.

The solution of encryption employed by CipherCloud and used by ClaimVantage puts data in the cloud that is meaningless to anyone not authorized to access the data. I encourage you to take a few minutes to watch the video.

We’re always happy to help CIO’s and forward thinking business executives find common ground.

I couldn’t have said it better….

Happy New Solution Year

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

I’ve read a lot of year in review and outlook for next year articles. From those, I’ve decided that whatever you think may or may not happen next year—you’d be able to find someone to agree —or disagree with you.

I can only specifically comment on changes that we’ve experienced in our business in the last year:

  • The sense of urgency is increasing for companies undertaking a claims processing automation project.
  • Cloud computing is no longer an emerging technology.
  • The cost of automation in the claims processing industry (measured on a per user basis) is widely varied.
  • More C-level executives are personally interested in claims processing automation benefits.
  • Policyholders and other claimants are demanding information and communication related to a claim that is much closer to real-time.

These are all trends that were in place last year. My observations are more about momentum—it’s all happening fast in our industry. I expect the pace of change to only increase in 2012.

Happy New Year from the ClaimVantage team!

2010 IT Team of the Year: “Way To Go Team!”

Friday, December 30th, 2011

It’s not often that we are able to share publically such great praise for our work. In the second quarter of 2011, ICT Ireland recognized ClaimVantage as part of the IT team of the year – with our client Irish Life and our partner Version 1.

ICT Ireland is the leading representative body for the technology sector in Ireland and is affiliated to the Irish Business Employment Confederation (IBEC). Its membership is made up of the leading players in the Irish technology sector, as well as many early stage hi-tech companies and telecommunications companies. The vision of ICT Ireland is to maximize the contribution of these companies to Irish society and the economy.

Version 1 continues to be an important partner in Ireland and we look forward to working with them on future projects. Of course the role of the Irish Life professionals on the project made both the project a great success and the award and the recognition possible. Read more on the Version 1 website.

Feel free to be in touch for more insights from the project and the implementation process.

We have a new website.

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

As you can see our ClaimVantage website has changed considerably. In it’s first iteration it was more about what we do. Now it’s about what we can do together.

It’s sharper, easier to navigate, and quicker to help someone understand what we offer and how it would help them. We’ve changed around the videos and are soon to add a new short video with an overview of the solution and a few screen shots to help you get a look and feel for the system.

It also features our new logo and tagline to help folks discovering us for the first time get a better initial grasp of what we are all about. If you’ve been following us over the last few years, you’ll already know how we’ve grown as businesses around the world have worked with us to automate claims processing. This site reflects that growth.

It also features some of our partners. I’d encourage you to explore some of what they have to say on their own sites (and we have provided links) about their technology and related services. It’s an interesting mix of cutting edge companies that enable our solution development, security, installation, and claims decision-making data.

We’re not done adding more information to the website. We hope you find it helpful and encourage you to reach out to someone on our team to discuss information not covered here or a particular need that may be unique to your claims operation.

innovation with a small i.

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

I used my laptop to find my phone. It was in a taxi. In a city I was visiting on business. It’s a great story and I’d be glad to share more if you give me a call.

The point here is that it’s incredible to think of all of the ways that technology has changed how we do things today that were not possible even last year. Behind that technology is a level of innovation that requires someone to look at a problem and solve it in a different way. Or solve for something that no one has yet to even consider as a problem.

Innovation and technology are intertwined in our business in a chicken and egg kind of way. Is it the technology that lets us find a solution that solves a problem–or is it the process of solving the problem and then using or adapting technological solutions? I’d like to think it’s both.

Innovation doesn’t have to be revolutionary–or help me find my cell phone–to make a huge difference in how businesses innovate and make evolutionary process changes to achieve superior results.  It all seems to start with questioning the way things get done and asking if there is a better way.
The innovation with a small i creates change that may never lead the evening news. It may, however, challenge the “business as usual” approach and get you ahead of the game.

What I did while I wasn’t driving to work.

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

I have a friend that says he works 45 minutes a day. And he has a great argument to back it up.

He attended an efficiency seminar and the presenter took the group through a typical workday. It started with coming in, catching up with coworkers, meetings that were not productive, lunch, phone calls, co-worker distractions, more meetings that may or not be related to work product and time spent on emails and online – at the end of the day he claimed there were only 45 minutes of time to actually “work” in an 8 hour work day.

The conclusion was that it was important to eliminate all of the wasted time and distractions and find more time to work during the day. My friend decided to start a business and work the 45 minutes and stop wasting all of the time going to the office. Of course he works more than that, but he doesn’t spend any time that is not focused on getting something done.

Not everyone has the luxury of directing how he or she organizes and achieves an efficient work life.  Someplace between those magical 45 minutes and an 8-hour workday is a balance between productivity and activity with no output.

I’ve been thinking about this since I had a chance to work from my home office before an evening flight to Ireland. I was logged in remotely to all of our systems. I had access to all of the features of everything I had at the office, and I felt that I got a lot done. In hindsight, I had more time, no commute, efficient phone meetings, and no interruptions. I also realized I wasn’t alone.

Most of my team works remotely. It’s become part of our culture and I’m pleased that our solution may make it a bigger part of how your team operates in the future.
